“How do you choose the best part of a system that gets the job done in so many areas?”

In 1997, Garten began searching for a new software vendor.
At the time, each of its five businesses was using a different system and none were integrated. The company needed a system robust enough to handle the company's diverse needs, yet flexible enough to adapt to each business. What they needed was a single platform capable of handling data collection, production planning, tracking and reporting.

Selecting the appropriate software was a long and grueling process that lasted about two years. During that time, each department manager communicated unique requirements to be analyzed, modified and implemented into the Flexx system.

"We needed an enterprise system flexible enough to handle our needs," said Pamela Best, Director of Finance & Support Services. "We ultimately chose Flexx because it is modifiable, customizable, flexible and well-priced."

Flexx has exceeded the company's expectations, allowing each of the company's businesses to use a single platform. In addition, the system automatically runs reports and consolidates data, a task once handled by staff who have since been assigned to more essential work. Business has grown by 25 percent while Garten has yet to add a single member to its accounting team.

"The system made it possible to reassign those (accounting) staff to other more vital tasks," said Best.

Although Best had reservations about working with a smaller firm, Databyte's size has proven to be one of its greatest strengths. "They are responsive. They answer our calls, address our concerns, and find solutions for our problems," Best said. "Any concerns or feedback we have is taken very seriously.."

Best has no reservations about recommending Flexx and Databyte. "Flexx is ideal for companies whose system needs are more diverse because it easily adapts, or can be adapted, to the business you are in."
